Harbour of Volendam
The full-day tour adds the harbour of Volendam, the cheese town of Edam and the island village of Marken.

Which one to choose

  • Only two or three hours to spare: the transport-only option, then buy the Zaanse Schans Card on arrival and do the mills and museum at your own pace.
  • First time in the Netherlands, want context: the half-day guided tour. You are back in Amsterdam by 14:00.
  • Want windmills, a fishing harbour, cheese and the island village: the full day. On Wednesdays in July and August it passes the Edam cheese market.
  • Travelling with a Museumkaart or I amsterdam City Card: go by yourself — express bus 800 takes 24 minutes and the Zaans Museum is free for you.

Tip: if you only want the Zaanse Schans, transport-only plus the Zaanse Schans Card gives you more time in the village than a guided half-day for a similar total price.

Express bus 800 from Amsterdam Centraal reaches the Zaanse Schans in 24 minutes (every 15 minutes in season) and the train to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans in 17 minutes plus a 15-minute walk. Combined with the Zaanse Schans Card (€29.50) you spend about €40 and keep the whole day flexible.
