The cosy village is less than half an hour’s drive from the centre of Amsterdam.

Edam & cheese

Edam is famous for its cheese, which has been traded to all corners of the world for centuries. The cheeses are still ripening in special warehouses. In the summer months, there are the famous cheese markets, where visitors can enjoy this spectacle and taste the many kinds of cheese at various locations. But Edam is more than cheese.

In Edam, you can also visit the 18th century cheese warehouses where, of course, you can sample the products. Edam is an attractive historical village with a protected townscape full of national monuments and places of interest. Less well known but very special is the Fort near Edam, which is located just outside the centre. It is the best preserved fortress of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and you can visit it.
